Wanderlust: Actions, Traces and Journeys 1967 – 2017
September 7, 2017 – January 7, 2018
University of Buffalo Art Galleries
Taking its name from Rebecca Solnit’s “Wanderlust: A History of Walking”, the exhibition will inlcude works that are narrative, political, performative and conceptual examples of contemporary art. The exhibition is a survey of actions, showcasing the variety of artists exploring and creating work in an outdoor setting, which range in medium from drawing, photography, sculpture, installations, film and video to performance and social practice taking place in both urban and rural landscapes. The represented works vary in process – some artists work as solitary figures implanting themselves physically on the landscape while others formed actions and created movements in a collaborative manner or in public.
Artists to be included in the exhibition include Vito Acconci, David Hammons, Nancy Holt, Bas Jan Ader, Francis Alÿs, Janinie Antoni, Sophie Calle, Rosemarie Castoro, Teresa Murak, John Baldessari, Richard Long, Anthony McCall, Kenneth Josephson, Ana Mendieta, Gabriel Orozco, Kim Beck, John Pfahl, Nevin Aladag, Mona Hatoum, Zoe Crosher, Blue Republic, Roberley Bell, Carmen Papalia, Fallen Fruti, Michael X. Ryan, Greg Stimac, Todd Shalom, William Lamson, Wangechi Mutu, Marie Lorenz, and Guido van der Werve.
