The Migros Museum of Contemporary Art will celebrate its 20th anniversary from October 15th 2016 until 5th February 2017 with the exhibition 20 – An Exhibition in Three Acts.

With more than 100 works from the collection, publications, posters, photographic and video documentation, as well as numerous archive materials, the museum for once turns the focus on itself- and in doing so tries to envision its future while also looking back on its past.
On the top floor of the museum the exhibition has gathered performative and process-oriented works from the 1960s and 1970s in our collection. Since its inception, the Migros Museum of Contemporary Art has dealt intensively with artistic positions whose work is characterized by the use of performative, processual or social-interventionist strategies. For the presentation of the collection “Collection Revisited” an emphasis is placed on positions that take advantage of these new artistic strategies in order to criticize and change not only social circumstances and the role of women but also the rules of the art world itself and an hegemonic-male dominated history of art.

Following this exhibition in December as an “interlude” will be the performative, activated installation “Collection of Suppressed Voices” (2014) by Eva Koťátková. The cycle will be completed with the large 300sqm sculpture Principles Of Admitting (2009) by Karla Black, during which a further exhibition on the lower floor of the museum Museum Revisited – 1996-2016 will tell the history of the collection through an exemplary selection of works.
